We have completely and totally fallen in love with using ‘living books‘ as our spine for history. Early American History Literature based on real events made the history of our country’s founding come to life for us this year!
There are several history literature guides to choose from, but I am not going to focus on them. Instead, I am sharing some of our favorite Early American History Literature for elementary ages (my kids are in K-7th and love them).

Reading to my children has been one of my favorite parts about homeschooling. We all enjoy a good book and these are some of the best.
Our typical homeschool day starts with Bible time, then our foundational subjects (math & language arts), and then we alternate between science and history reading time. Sometimes we get to our reading time before lunch and sometimes we don’t get to it until after our lunch and afternoon chores are done.
Making our homeschool studies interesting with literature has made our schooling (and life) a lot more enjoyable!
