How To Make A Cozy Home
- Music – something about having music playing in the background makes a home feel cozy. Especially if it is Christmas or country Gospel music! A record (vinyl) is even more nostalgic.
- Diffuse Essential Oils – smells evoke a multitude of emotions & memories. For me, the smell of cloves, cinnamon, and peppermint brings me back to the Holiday seasons of my childhood when my mom did a lot of baking for Thanksgiving & Christmas. And the smell of fir and cedarwood revives the coziness of the wood-burning stove from my childhood. Diffusing these Essential Oils makes my house smell wonderful and homey. And it’s good for us, too!
- Stew Beef – there is nothing like beef stew simmering on the cooktop. A bowl of steaming hot beef broth with meat and veggies is the perfect way to end a cozy day! Pair it with freshly baked bread… YUM!! Check out my 10 Cold Weather Meals post!
- Bake Bread – the smell of bread baking (or some similar bakery) is the essence of a cozy home. Plus, with cooler weather, it is the best time of year to stock up on home-baked goods of all types!
- Play Quietly – when the house is quieter, it feels cozier. Having the children spend some time reading books, playing with building bricks, or some other form of quiet play will give you a sense of “all is well in my home”.
- Family Time – listen to an audio drama together. Nothing like getting the whole family together in the living room to give you that cozy-homey-peaceful feeling!
- Build A Fire – if you have a wood-burning stove, then you are so blessed. I am so thankful to have a home with a wood stove again. To me, that is the ultimate in “coziness”!
- Drink Something Hot – hot chocolate, tea, coffee… cozy up with a hot drink and book and relax in your living room while music plays in the background, essential oils are diffusing, beef soup is simmering, bread is baking, children play on the floor with Lego bricks, and the woodstove is crackling! Or any variation of the above ideas. 😉

I like to do all that you listed, except we haven't listened to any audio books, I read instead 🙂 I LOVE, LOVE our wood stove!!! I told Leon that it's a must in our next place 😉
Good ideas! We need to do more of these!
Great list! We also do "winter" vs "summer" bedding.. lots of quilts.. I pull out pretty and cozy throws for the couches and favorite reading chairs.. and of course a good fall scrub down of the house set's it in order cozy winter nights.
Oh yes, I agree with this list! We were blessed with a woodburning stove this past year and it is amazing how much cozier the house feels. It also has an oven and it is wonderful when there is something baking as the whole house smells wonderful and it warm also!
This is crazy, but we’ll find fireplace videos on Netflix to play over the TV to add to the ambiance. We let the kids camp out on the living room for to enjoy it. One night my husband ha dad to get up and turn down the volume because the crackling was too loud.
That’s a great idea!
